Eclectus mum protects young

I was going surprise you with a nice new update of photos of my young babies. Instead here I sit with my sore finger which got bitten while I was trying to take a picture.

This is a good reminder to watch what the mothers reaction is. Most mother birds don’t like to be disturb while in the nest. Normally I like to wait while the mother hen leaves the nest. That moment I grab the opportunity to quick inspect babies and take photo. The mother who was on the end of aviary was back in the nest without I realize because I was to busy focusing my camera on the babies. Suddenly I felt her beak biting in my finger that was the end of that filming expedition. At shock I must have flicked the battery cover too, because I suddenly lost the 2 batteries of my camera. On no was my first thought I hope I haven’t lost them in the nest because batteries are highly poison substance if that gets nibbled on. The last thing I felt like doing is searching for the nest for my lost camera batteries after I just bitten by ob setting the mum. Luckily the batteries fell on the ground, that was a great relive.

What have I learned from this episode.

  • Parrot mums can be very propective of their young and this hen doesn’t like it if I inspect the nest.
  • Or you can leave parrot to their own devises and hope that they will bring up the babies fine.
  • Next time be better prepared close the nest hole so that the hen can’t come back in without you noticing it.
  • Make sure the battery cover is securely closed so that it doesn’t open easy.
  • Keep records so that next time when breeding you remember the behaviour of your Eclectus Parrot as every parrot might have a different behaviour .

Hope I can provide you with more pictures next week when I will be better prepared to take some photos.
